Jean-Paul et Benoit Droin Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2010

Is it a Great wine or a wine that was drinked at the perfect moment? I opened this bottle in a well planned moment; at the beach to pair the salty breeze of the ocean with the classic seashell feel of a Chablis!

Medium gold color. Nose showing finesse, saltyness, lemon and mineral notes. Bright flavors of green apples, poached pears, peaches, honey that brings some roundness to the mid-palate, then comes the salty notes with acidity in a great finish. The wine is ready and was opened at the perfect moment. Very good+ (90)

Made of Chardonnay. 25% of the wine is fermented then aged in oak barrels for 10 months. Alcohol level of 3%

Weingut Stadt Krems Grüner Veltliner Kremstal Austria 2015

Pale straw color. Nose with lemon, saltiness, slighty green, also have rocky notes and lots of freshness! The acidity on the palate brings a biting twist to the wine, the the flavors of lime, green apples, it’s bright yet approachable and the salty and green side are still there, but I like it! With that type of wine, who would want this summer to end… Good+ (88)

Anne et Jean-François Ganevat J’en Veux Encore 2014

The color is between ruby and light garnet. Expressive nose of small berries, earth, sweet spices and that natural wine but balanced twist. Had some fizz at bottle opening, but disappeared quickly to offer pure goodness and litterally quench our thirst as it drinks so well. It had fruit, it’s fun to drink and yes, we do want more (J’en Veux Encore)! Very good+ (90)

Made of old Gamay vines from Beaujolais and Jura old grape varieties. Natural winemaking, no fining or sulfur added. Aged 10 months. Alcohol level of 12%

Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Niagara Peninsula 2010

Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Niagara Peninsula 2010

Medium dark garnet color. Nose of cherries, cooked berries, spices and oak. On the palate the wine is tender but not sweet with its candied cherries, small red fruit jam, spices, earth and oak notes. More modern than what I’m used to from that producer, but that vintage was so hot and it does show in the wine, and that’s no reason not to like it! Good+ (88)

Made of Pinot Noir from Niagara’s Bench Wismer vineyard. Aged 16 months in oak barrels. ALcohol level of 12,8%

Not availeble anymore, but was sold by the SAQ

Domaine St-Jacques Pinot gris 2015

Domaine St-Jacques Pinot gris 2015

Light gold color. Nose of lemon, peach, it’s fresh with an enjoyable green side. Balanced between a round mouth feel and the acidity with flavors of fresh pineapple, lemon, lime, peach and a touch of minerality. No heavyness in this wine, it’s dry which is not the standard with cool climate wines and it’s fun to drink too. Among the best white wine from Québec I had so far. Good+ (88)

Velenosi Il Brecciarolo Rosso Piceno DOC Superiore 2013

Medium dark purple color. Nose of black berries, a good load of spices, black earth and a hint of cedar wood. Even if the spices notes are quite bold on the palate, the berry flavors paired with the wine structure and silky tannins are not stopping the wine to clearly be enjoyable. Great wine to pair with food due to its acididity level on the finish. Good+ (88)

Malivoire Gamay Niagara Peninsula 2014

Malivoire Gamay Niagara Peninsula 2014

Medium ruby color. Shy nose of fruit, flowers and spices notes. On the though, the wine offers juicy crushed red fruits, sweet spices, aromatic herbswet earth and good acidityFresh and floral, different from what is made in Beaujolais, but still pretty tasty. Ends in a long and slightly warm finish. Very good (89)

Made of Gamay. Mostly aged in tanks, but 30% of the wine saw oak for 6 months (89% French and 11% American). Alcohol level of 12%

Doudet Naudin Pinot Noir 2014

Doudet Naudin Pinot Noir 2014

Doudet Naudin Pinot Noir 2014

From a recent SAQ Cellier release, I was curious to have this pinot noir produced by Doudet Naudin and sold at a more than fair price, especially for a wine of that grape variety made in France…

Classic pinot light ruby color. Aromas and flavors are about the same with red fruit, berries, earth and spices. There is some acidity, a touch of bitterness, but more importantly, this wine is true to its variety. Might not have a lot of depth, but is enjoyable without being easy or too sweet. Well made. Good+ (88)

Made of pinot noir grapes coming from the la Vallée de l’Aude near les Pyrénées. Aged in stainless tanks. Alcohol level of 12,5%

Cheval Quancard Cuvée Clémence Entre-Deux-Mers 2014

Cheval Quancard Cuvée Clémence Entre-Deux-Mers 2014

Lightly colored with green hue. Very typical of what sauvignon blanc can give with lemon, rocks, grass and some saltyness. Round on the palate with tropical fruit, yellon melon and candied lemon. Medium acidity level, the wine still have some freshness to it that supports the wine flaor concentration. Ends on a light green note that I like. Good+ (88)

Made of 70% sauvignon blanc, 20% sémillon and 10% muscadelle. Aged 6 months in oak barrels, 66% of them being new. Alcohol level of 12,5%

Boschendal The Pavillion Chenin Blanc 2015

Boschendal The Pavillion Chenin Blanc 2015

Lightly colored. This wine from South African Western Cape region offers a nose of lemon, green apples, herbs, sea breeze and some flower notes. Fresh on the palate with a good acidity, then the crisp apples flavor kicks in with lemon and salty water making this wine enjoyable and interresting, especially at that price! Very good QPR. Good+ (88)
