Faustino I Gran Reserva Rioja 2001

Faustino I Gran Reserva Rioja 2001

Faustino I Gran Reserva Rioja 2001

Dark garnet color. Nose of wild berries, dry fruits, leather and old wood. Smooth on the palate with its flavors of old wood, leather, tobacco, sweet spices and some jammy fruits notes on a long and persistant finish. It is quite interesting to have the opportunity to drink a wine of that age at that more than reasonable price. Very good (89)

Made of 86% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano and 5% de Mazuelo. Aged 26 months in French and American oak barrels. Alcohol level of 13,5%

You don’t see that often white wine bottles with few years of cellaring done being opened as it is usually something kept for red wine. And when that type of wine is tasted blind, the appreciation is raised since it become harder to find what the bearer brought and pourred us…

Light gold color. Some sulfur at first on the nose, then smoke, peach and citrus fruit with a little green side I don’t usually match with the varietal aromas of sauvignon blanc. Expressive yet serious on the palate with high mineral / sea shells side, then the citrus fruit, yellow apples and litchi flavors. Balanced and bright at first and round, charming and salty on a long finish. Complex and tasty. The bottle owner patience allowed us to be rewqarded with its content! Excellent (91)

Domaine de la Rectorie Collioure Côté Mer Rosé 2014

Watermelon juice color. Fine and subtle nose of red fruits with citrus fruit and salty notes. Tastier on the palate, it charms! Far from being a sugary rosé, it’s even better with grilled dishes. Serious, deep with red berry flavors, roses, it’s salty with just a touch of aromatic herbs and spices. Came in late in my summer, otherwise I would’ve had many bottles of this. Very good+ (90)

Made of grenache, syrah and carignan. Fermented in barrels and aged on lees for 6 months.  Alcohol level of 13,5%

Medium dark and shiny ruby color. Nose of berries, earth, spices and flowers. Flavors where are blended together different types of berries, from sour to sweet, then comes the earth notes, some spices and the clear feel of biting the fruit. Makes a very godd summer wine! Good+ (88)

Is it a Great wine or a wine that was drinked at the perfect moment? I opened this bottle in a well planned moment; at the beach to pair the salty breeze of the ocean with the classic seashell feel of a Chablis!

Medium gold color. Nose showing finesse, saltyness, lemon and mineral notes. Bright flavors of green apples, poached pears, peaches, honey that brings some roundness to the mid-palate, then comes the salty notes with acidity in a great finish. The wine is ready and was opened at the perfect moment. Very good+ (90)

The color is between ruby and light garnet. Expressive nose of small berries, earth, sweet spices and that natural wine but balanced twist. Had some fizz at bottle opening, but disappeared quickly to offer pure goodness and litterally quench our thirst as it drinks so well. It had fruit, it’s fun to drink and yes, we do want more (J’en Veux Encore)! Very good+ (90)

Made of old Gamay vines from Beaujolais and Jura old grape varieties. Natural winemaking, no fining or sulfur added. Aged 10 months. Alcohol level of 12%

Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Niagara Peninsula 2010

Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Niagara Peninsula 2010

Medium dark garnet color. Nose of cherries, cooked berries, spices and oak. On the palate the wine is tender but not sweet with its candied cherries, small red fruit jam, spices, earth and oak notes. More modern than what I’m used to from that producer, but that vintage was so hot and it does show in the wine, and that’s no reason not to like it! Good+ (88)

Made of Pinot Noir from Niagara’s Bench Wismer vineyard. Aged 16 months in oak barrels. ALcohol level of 12,8%

Not availeble anymore, but was sold by the SAQ

Domaine St-Jacques Pinot gris 2015

Light gold color. Nose of lemon, peach, it’s fresh with an enjoyable green side. Balanced between a round mouth feel and the acidity with flavors of fresh pineapple, lemon, lime, peach and a touch of minerality. No heavyness in this wine, it’s dry which is not the standard with cool climate wines and it’s fun to drink too. Among the best white wine from Québec I had so far. Good+ (88)
