Château Yvonne La Folie Saumur-Champigny 2014

Dark purple color. Nose of blackberries, crushed raspberries with a good amount of spices notes. Silky mouthfeel at first, then  the brightness of the wine shows all the goodness this type of Cabernet Franc can offer. The tart and sour fruit flavors on the finish brings in an enjoyable vibrant twist. Very good (89)

Norman Hardie Cabernet Franc VQA Niagara Peninsula 2014

Norman Hardie Cabernet Franc VQA Niagara Peninsula 2014

Norman Hardie Cabernet Franc VQA Niagara Peninsula 2014

Medium dark ruby color with purple hue. True to Norman Hardie’s Cab Franc nose with its blend of berries, a hint of bell peppers, spices and earth notes in a very fresh way. Similar on the palate with a great acidity level (even if lower than its County equivalent), this wine drinks so easily, being so good and comforting. Nothing to help my craving of their wines or to help me wai till we visit again the winery! Very good+ (90)

Dark ruby color. Nose where small red and black berries are blended with just a touch of red bell pepper, spicy and earthy clay soil notes. Really fresh on the palate with a good acidity level, the fruit is chewy and the spices brings in some seriouness, but nothing to fade the enjoyability of this wine! Still young even if really tasty, a year of cellaring should help it to show itself even more enjoyable. Very good+ (90)

Le Macchiole Paleo Toscana IGT 2012

Le Macchiole Paleo Toscana IGT 2012

Le Macchiole Paleo Toscana IGT 2012

Produced as an IGT because it is not allowed into the Bolgheri appellation where the vines grows to do a wine from a single varietal.

Very dark cherry color. Nose with luscious and pretty oak notes, then the fruit, spices, dry herbs and the green bell pepper. So great on the palate, it’s tasty, young, the oak is there but all balanced with a long mineral finish. Great structure, acidity and even freshness! Again the grape variety shows, but there is also a difference coming from the origin of the wine and the place where the vines grows. Superb (93)

Made of 100% de Cabernet Franc. Aged 20 months in oak barrels, 75% being new. Alcohol level of 14,5%

This vintage will soon be available at the SAQ for 99,00$ (Code SAQ : 12640224)

Château de Brézé Clos Mazurique Saumur 2015

Château de Brézé Clos Mazurique Saumur 2015

Dark purple color but not completly opaque. Nose of berries, grilled bell pepper, earth, really fresh and blooming from the glass. Fruit loaded flavors, then some spices and that typical Cab Franc greens that I truly appreciate when done right as it is the case now. Perfect wine to quench your thirst since it’sjuicy“, lively and so tasty. This is some pretty Cab Franc! Very good+ (89)

Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux Saumur-Champigny 2006

Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux Saumur-Champigny 2006

Medium garnet color. Deep nose of red berries, pepper, flowers, so fine and beautiful. The seduction follows on the palate with its silky mouth coating, so gentle. Then flavors of red fruit, a touch of grilled bell pepper, some spices, so long finish and really charms the taster! Tasted blind (with knowing which wine it is or have seen the bottle), I was aiming at a beautiful Côte-Rôtie. I was wrong, but still explainable with the finesse of the wine. First time with this particular wine, had before the “Clos” from the same vintage. This was a magnificent wine. Superb+ (94)

Made of Cabernet Franc from a 2,9ha vineyard by “les frères Foucault”, Jean-Louis « Charlie » et Bernard « Nady ». Their wine follows the organic farming principles without having the certification since the ’70s. Aged 18-24 months in one year french oak barrels. Alcohol level of 12,5%

The wine is black cherry dark. Very earthy nose with black berries, smoke, spices and a hint of this grape classical green bell pepper. Slightly biting on the palate with high acidity, then it’s an explosion of spicy smoky fruity flavors. Nice long finish with flavors of crushed rocks. Very good (89)
