Medium dark and slightly purple color. Spicy nose with dark berries, leather and grilled bell pepper. Smooth on the palate with a good amount of fruit flavors, it ends in a finish where a light bitterness and green pepper give some strenght. Drinks pretty easily. To pour over meat or lasagna dish. McManis Cabernet Sauvignon California 2015

McManis Cabernet Sauvignon California 2015

McManis Cabernet Sauvignon California 2015

Dark color. Nose of ripe berries, spices and a hint of brown sugar. There is no doubt, this wine charms “à la Californienne” with its perfume. On the palate the fruit feels ripe also (but the wine is completly dry), follows sweet spice flavors and a welcomed bitterness appeared on the finish paired with a good acidity. Good choice of wine, especially if you’re going see friends or family. Good (87)

Caliterra Reserva Carmenere Cabernet-Sauvignon Colchagua 2015

Caliterra Reserva Carmenere Cabernet-Sauvignon Colchagua 2015

Caliterra Reserva Carmenere Cabernet-Sauvignon Colchagua 2015

Dark garnet color with purple hue. Typical nose of cabernet wines with balck fruit, spices, leather, then the carmenere kicks in with its nice green notes (far from the Quebec’s too often term of tomoto leaves!). Dry on the palate with a little bite from the tannins, this is quite enjoyable, especially for the price! Long and wide on the palate, balanced, not heavy at all and pretty tasty. Good+ (88)

Made of 58% Carmenère and 42% Cabernet-Sauvignon. 30% of the wine was aged 6 to 9 months in 2-3 wines old French oak barrels. Alcohol level of 13,5%

De Martino Legado Reserva Cabernet-Sauvignon Maipo 2013

De Martino Legado Reserva Cabernet-Sauvignon Maipo 2013

Dark ruby color. Aromas of mint, red berries, spices, coffee, clay and light oak notes. Tasty, structured but still have charm with its bright flavors of fruit and greens, spices and a slightly rustic finish. I like that type of wine and dare to put some aside to let it age and you’ll be rewarded! Excellent (91)

Diamond Cabernet-Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa 1996

Diamond Creek Cabernet-Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa 1996

Diamond Creek Cabernet-Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa 1996

The Californian Diamond Creek Vineyards, which name comes from the place where it stands, the Diamond Creek Canyon, is made of different types of soil vineyards, bottled separately, ranging for 3 to 4 different wines depending on the vintage. One more thing that makes Diamond Creek different from the others wineries of that area, especially when it was founded in the late 1960’s, is the fact that it’s planted only with Cabernet-Sauvignon, from vines coming from First Growth Bordeaux Château.

Having a great capacity to age, these wines fully shows themselves when mature at around 20 years of age while holding a lot more. It is always a Great moment to enjoy these wines in that stage of development, which I did again! I had the opportunity over the years to drink few “old” or mature wines from Diamond Creek, as the 1979 and the 1992 also noted on my blog.

Here is now my note on this 1996 Red Rock Terrace:

Very dark garnet color. Nose of berries, leather, tobacco with fine spices and oak, showing clearly what Cabernet-Sauvignon wines can do best, while having great resemblance with left bank Bordeaux wines. This had such a beautiful nose! Flavors of the same kind of what was on the nose with the additional minerality, still showing structure even if polished in a long silky, fine, balance and savory finish. Liked it a lot! Superb (92)

Made of Cabernet-Sauvignon from vines planted on steep hillside made of red clay mixed with iron deposits. Aged in new French oak barrels. Alcohol level of 12,5%

The 2011 and 2012 vintages are currently available in some SAQ stores. For older vintages, some were previously sold through special release from the SAQ, so look for them of shop south of the border in US wine shops.

Sirius Bordeaux 2012

Sirius Bordeaux 2012

Sirius Bordeaux 2012

Dark cherry color. Nose of smoke, black berries, some leather, all in the classic Bordeaux perfume spirit. Good showing on the palat with a spicy and biting finish, but drinks pretty well being not too heavy nor too light with just enough strenght to pair well with many types of dishes. This one did passed the test of fast drinking bottles as it went down quickly! Good+ (88)

Vina Mongras Ninquen Colchagua Valley 2013

Vina Mongras Ninquen Colchagua Valley 2013

Vina Mongras Ninquen Colchagua Valley 2013

Dark color with purple hue. Nose of spices, earth, oak, bitter chocolate and black berries. Tasty and silky on the palate even if it shows its structure, this wine gives a lot of quality and depth. The flavors are similar to those from the nose, it is approachable from now even if some air wouldn’t not be too much or unnecessary. For those patient folks out there, lay down some bottles for 5 to 15 years and it will be even better. Very good+ (90)
