Domaine Buisson-Charles Meursault Les Tessons 2011

Domaine Buisson-Charles Meursault Les Tessons 2011

Beautiful golden color. Complex nose of citrus fruits, ripe fruits, flowers, salty notes and fine oak aromas. Followed flavors of fresh pineapple, citrus fruit and minerality shows again, but what impresses me the most is the texture of the wine. There is a round and fat mouthfeel, but finesse, there is acidity, but it doesn’t hide the richness of it while being remarkably balanced. Excellent+ (92)

Made of Chardonnay from 40+ years old vines. Aged in oak barrels with 20% being new. Alcohol level of 13,5%

Lightly colored. Shy nose where some salty, lemon and hay notes did showed up in a very fresh way. More expressive on the palate with lemon zest flavors paired with a round and almost fat mouthfeel, then the acidity came on the finish on salty and mineral notes. Great wine from Québec! Very good (89)

Château Cailleteau Bergeron Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2012

Château Cailleteau Bergeron Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2012

Dark garnet color. Nose of dark berries, spices and smoke. On the palate this wine shows the Bordeaux classic balance with notes of tobacco and leather, this fruit flavors paired with an enjoyable bitterness. Approcheable now, but would surprise many of us after some ageing in a cellar. Good+ (88))

Michele Chiarlo Le Orme Barbera d’Asti 2014

Medium dark ruby color. Nose of flowers, berries, spices and earth. There is on the palate an enjoyable acidity paired with fine bitterness, there is fruit and spices notes and this calls for food as it’s then that this wine shines! From deli meats to pastas or pizza, this will pair well. A wine that I like to bring over when visiting friends or family. Good+ (88)

Purple color but you can see through. Nose of cherries, fresh mushrooms, earth and some spices. On the palate the fruit is so pure, true, there is no “makeup“, it’s good, juicy, enjoyable. The flavors goes from red berries to spices, while also showing earth notes, all with a great depth. There is wine in there, but it’s not heavy, there is acidity but its not biting. Also have lenght and balance. This is litterally to me a Grand natural wine because it has everything you want but the flaws. Excellent (91)

Pierre-Marie Chermette Gamay Nouveau Les Griottes 2016

This “Nouveau winefrom Domaine du Vissoux is quite dark, almost purple colored. Primary aromas and flavors of fruit and sweet spices. Surprisingly concentrated and round, this is really enjoyable and tasty! If more Beaujolais Nouveau couold be like this, I would have more! Good (87)

Beaujolais and other “Nouveau vin” may not be as popular as they were before, but I find that it is still and enjoyable exercice to try some of these newly released wines. As you may have seen, I like Gamay based wines a lot, and these wine won’t be an exception! Here is the first try on these newly released wines:

Light and bright ruby color. Nose of red berries as cranberries and pomegranate, then some spices, green notes and cereals. Not the ones you eat in the morning, but whole grains one. Lightly concentrated, high drinkability, shy fruit notes, spices and a reminder of natural wine. Great wine? Maybe not. This wine with a deli meat plate? Oh yes! Good (87)

Made of Gamay. Alcohol level of 12%

Bright ruby color with purple hue. Slightly funky on the nose, which is common with natural wines, but it did disappeared with air. The nose is on crushed red berries blended with spices and earth notes. The fizz present at bottle opening did cleared out too with time. From the first sip, I know this was going to offer high drinkability. Flavors of red berries, spices and earth again. There is acidity in this wine and the ripe fruit flavors are not lowering the enjoyability of it. This is what natural and organic should be all about. The last third of the bottle drank 2 days after the bottle was opened was even better. Would I put this wine in a decanter? I think so! A really well made wine. Very good + (90)

Grange of Prince Edward Estate Gamay VQA Prince Edward County 2013

Grange of Prince Edward Estate Gamay VQA Prince Edward County 2013

Publishing tasting notes on Gamay wines without having one from Grange of Prince Edward would have been a non-sense. So here is one!

Light ruby color. Nose of berries, earth, spices and some notes of flowers and minerals. Bright acidity on the palate that leads to flavors of red berries like cranberries and raspberries, sweet spices and just a hint of oak ageing related notes. Just light enough while having a touch of seriousness and lots of enjoyability. Very good+ (89)

Made of Gamay. Aged 18 months in neutral oak barrels. Alcohol level of 12%

Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette 2014

Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette 2014

Clear and foggy ruby color. Verybarny” at bottle opening, it did disapeared with some air, thankfully!. Then came the berry notes with spices, earth, inviting and fresh. Flavors of red berries, earth, flowers, there is acidity but also a texture to the wine. It’s tasty and long. This is again a good wine from Foillard, but still youn and reserved with, for my taste, too much barnyard for now. A few years of cellaring shall take care of that! Very good + (90)
