Norman Hardie Cuvée des Amis Unfiltered VQA Prince Edward County 2014

My tasting note for this wine:

Beautiful light golden color. Nose of orchard fruits, lemon with a hint of toasty, oaky notes with a gentle saltiness. Round texture on the palate that doesn’t hide the acidity behind it. Then came the fruit flavors mixed with the oak from ageing, all balanced and leading to the mineral finish of wet stones, clay and saltiness again, all bringing in complexity. The wine had a longer finish that the time it took to empty our glasses, cause it was drinking so nicely and easily. This is a stunning wine, a Grand Cru from Prince Edward County, to be opened with great friends. Superb (93)

Made of  Chardonnay exclusively from Prince Edward County. Barrel fermented and aged and 500L French oak barrels were used. The wine spent an additionnal 4 months on its lees in tank prior to bottling. Alcohol level of 11,4%

Domaine Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes 2012

This wine comes from Le Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot, the historical ownership from Louis Jadot and not their negoce activities.

Medium ruby pink color with a rim color that looks like the wine have some age. Dense and deep nose with aromatic notes of flowers, red berries, cherries, earth, spices and fine oak notes. Also have some concentration on the palate with sour berries, long salty and slightly oaky finish, so tasty and this really feels like a treat. Since I needed a good wine that night, my expectations were fulfilled! Excellent (91)

Made of Pinot Noir. Aged in oak barrels for 12 to 15 months. Alcohol level of 13,5%

Was sold at the SAQ for 62,00$ (Code SAQ : 11549496)

Light ruby color. Aromas of red berries, spices, earth, some green notes and feels really fresh. On the palate the acidity seize a little at first, but then the fruit sine with mineral, spicy and earthy notes. It’s good and tru to what I wan when I drink a gamay, a wine from the County and one from that winemaker. Drank from a magnum size bottle, the ideal size for this wine (in my opinion)! Very good (89)

Made of gamay. Alcohol level of 11,4%

Diamond Cabernet-Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa 1996

Diamond Creek Cabernet-Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa 1996

Diamond Creek Cabernet-Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa 1996

The Californian Diamond Creek Vineyards, which name comes from the place where it stands, the Diamond Creek Canyon, is made of different types of soil vineyards, bottled separately, ranging for 3 to 4 different wines depending on the vintage. One more thing that makes Diamond Creek different from the others wineries of that area, especially when it was founded in the late 1960’s, is the fact that it’s planted only with Cabernet-Sauvignon, from vines coming from First Growth Bordeaux Château.

Having a great capacity to age, these wines fully shows themselves when mature at around 20 years of age while holding a lot more. It is always a Great moment to enjoy these wines in that stage of development, which I did again! I had the opportunity over the years to drink few “old” or mature wines from Diamond Creek, as the 1979 and the 1992 also noted on my blog.

Here is now my note on this 1996 Red Rock Terrace:

Very dark garnet color. Nose of berries, leather, tobacco with fine spices and oak, showing clearly what Cabernet-Sauvignon wines can do best, while having great resemblance with left bank Bordeaux wines. This had such a beautiful nose! Flavors of the same kind of what was on the nose with the additional minerality, still showing structure even if polished in a long silky, fine, balance and savory finish. Liked it a lot! Superb (92)

Made of Cabernet-Sauvignon from vines planted on steep hillside made of red clay mixed with iron deposits. Aged in new French oak barrels. Alcohol level of 12,5%

The 2011 and 2012 vintages are currently available in some SAQ stores. For older vintages, some were previously sold through special release from the SAQ, so look for them of shop south of the border in US wine shops.

The cork crumbled at bottle opening, but thankfully, nothing went into the bottle. Still brightly colored even if it did showed some bricking on the rim. Nose of candied berries, leather, old wood, smoke and sweet spices. Really tasty, it does deliver and give what I usually expect from a californian Bordeaux blend styled wine with a majority of Cabernet-Sauvignon; a good moment! Still have plenty of life, a very long finish and it tasted well through the 2 hours we took to go through the bottle. We enjoyed it quite a lot. Excellent (91)

Made of 70% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Aged 23 months in american and french oak barrels. Alcohol level  of 13,5%
